Obituary

William Robert (Bill) Miller, 96, of Port Hueneme, CA, went home to be with the Lord on July 26, 2018 in Ventura, CA. He was born in Denver, CO to Norman and Ida Miller on July 4, 1922. When he graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1940 he enlisted in the Army National Guard. Assigned to the 144th Field Artillery Battalion in Santa Barbara which was reflagged the 980th FA Bn, he deployed to England to prepare for their D-Day landing at Utah Beach as part of the 4th Infantry Division. In August 1944 he received a battlefield commission while in France and remained on active duty after the war until his retirement as a Colonel in 1974. He later obtained a Masters of Science in Environmental Engineering from UC Dominguez Hills, started and ran a consulting corporation for 15 years. COL Miller enjoyed his family, friends, fishing, and church. His children Daniel Miller, Patricia Haith, Cynthia Cook, and their spouses, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews survive him. His beloved wife of 55 years, Dottie, his brother Norman Miller Jr., and his sisters Louise Larkin, Gerry Hamilton, and JoAnn Minter preceded him in death. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Community Presbyterian Church for being a strong and loving community of faith for Bill and Dottie for over four decades, to Ventura Post Acute, and to Dr. Bruce Woodling.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours to be held on Friday evening August 10, 2018 from 5 to 7pm in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street Ventura. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 11, 2018 at 11am in Community Presbyterian Church, Ventura. A reception will follow in Church. Interment with military honors will be at 2pm in Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road Ventura.
