Margaret Noble Sullivan, age 85, of Canton, passed away peacefully July, 28th at Brigham & Women’s Hospital with her husband, daughter, granddaughter and goddaughter by her side. Born September 22nd, 1932, Margaret was a graduate of Scituate High School Class of 1950 and Boston Business School. Margaret was a proud employee of the Boston Record American Newspaper and the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston before taking some time to be a stay at home mom.
She ventured back into the workforce in 1981 with an editorial assistant position at the Daily Transcript Newspaper in Dedham. While working full time, Margaret also freelanced for the Associated Newspapers, including the Canton Register. She won six first place awards and one second place award in the Massachusetts Media Women’s communications contest.
In 1983, she was hired as the administrative director of Canton Cable Access Corporation, a job she thrived at and loved. Her journalism background proved invaluable to the new town television station previously called Cable 8, but now known as Canton Community Television. Margaret won top honors in the Massachusetts Community Television Awards Contest for “Main Street,” the station’s video magazine show which she produced. She loved finding both local and nationally known guests for the show. One year, she set her sights on Senator Ted Kennedy. His office initially declined an interview until Margaret mentioned the station would be happy to share footage of the senator racing his yacht in the annual Figawi Race. A quid-pro-quo was secured and Canton’s local station earned an interview with one of the nation’s most powerful senators. Additionally, Margaret got the station access to a local prison where they shot footage of Mother Teresa giving rosary beads to inmates. Other interviews she secured included Bob Lobel, Jodie Foster and author William Martin.
Even though Canton was her beloved home for more than 50 years, Margaret’s heart truly never left Scituate. She grew up swimming in Scituate Harbor and returned “home” as often as she could. Margaret loved spending the day driving back roads through the historic areas of Hingham and Norwell and into Scituate where she would visit family or stop into the Mill Wharf to enjoy a cup of clam chowder and a delicious lobster sandwich. Driving by Scituate Lighthouse and then her childhood home on Turner Road were bonuses to any day for her. Margaret was a member of the Scituate Historical Society and served on its 350th Anniversary Committee.
Additionally, Margaret served on the Canton Community Access Board, the Stoughton Irish American Society Board and was a member of the Canton Community Club and the Canton Historical Commission.
Margaret loved bright colors, especially pinks and blues, and believed an outfit was never complete without red lipstick.
Beloved wife of 54 years of John H. Sullivan, lll. Loving and proud mother of John N. Sullivan and his wife Marie of Nantucket and Kate Sullivan Foley and her husband Denis of Monroe, CT, formerly of Stoughton, MA. Loving and proud grandmother of Hannah and Tim Sullivan and Shannon, Colleen, EmmaKate, DJ and Grace Foley. Also survived by her sister, Mary Duggan, and brothers, Joe Noble and John J. Noble , all of Scituate, her sister-in-laws Betty Noble, of Marshfield, Rosemary Burr of Westwood, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Drew and Ginny Sullivan of Dedham. She is also survived by so many loving nieces and nephews as well as by the Feck family. She was predeceased by her sister Eleanor Noble, her brother, Charles Noble, her sister-in-law Joan Noble, brother-in-law Randy Burr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton on Saturday, August 4 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be at Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton on Friday, August 3 from 4-7 pm. Burial Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
