Obituary

Eunice Koch Brennan

After a full and active life of nearly 92 years, Eunice Brennan, who was recovering from a broken hip, passed away in her sleep on Friday, July 6. Born in 1926, Eunice grew up in Medfield, MA, the eldest of three daughters of Ernest Koch II and Elizabeth Dykstra Koch. Shortly before her death, she was a resident of Thirwood Place in South Yarmouth on Cape Cod, where she lived independently. She was married for 57 years to Myron Brennan, who died in 2008; together they shared passions for family, square-dancing, antiquing, gardening, dining with friends, and restoring Model As.

As a young woman, Eunice earned a certificate from Burdett College of Business and Shorthand and worked as a secretary in a law firm in Boston. After marrying, she worked for the U.S. Navy as a stenographer while her husband served the Navy in the Korean War. Later, as the family grew, she worked for Medfield Public Schools' high school library, followed by Needham Public Schools. She was known by friends and co-workers for her easygoing nature and outstanding problem-solving skills. She was both artistically and mathematically talented, winning prizes for her artwork in high school, and insisting on doing her own taxes throughout her life. She was passionate about education, encouraging her two children to pursue their dreams. Her quiet nature masked an independent and adventurous spirit; she was thrilled to travel to the Netherlands in her eighties and explore the villages of northern Holland to trace her family history.

She leaves behind her daughter, Susan Brennan of Saint James, NY; her son, Ronald Brennan of Tewksbury, MA; a son-in-law, Eric Stubbs; a daughter-in-law, Anne Relias Brennan; and three cherished grandsons, Gregory, Christopher, and Harrison Brennan. We miss her terribly.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial gathering to celebrate her life from noon-3:00, Sunday, August 12 at Basil Restaurant in Medfield, MA (please rsvp to [email protected]).
