Obituary

Joel Christopher Costa, 74, of Walpole, died peacefully and lovingly at home after a brief illness on July 24, 2018.
Born in Cambridge, January 6,1944, the son of the late Gordon Costa and Muriel (Payne) Zion, he had formerly lived in Quincy, Weymouth and Somerville.
Joe was known by his friends as Joe “Sinatra” due to his passion for singing. An avid lover of music, Joe could name any artist of any song and even the record label it was recorded on.
Joe was a natural with animals and is remembered by many being seen walking his dog “Brian” up and down Main Street. His love for animals kept him busy managing Walpole Animal Care, a small shelter in Walpole.
Joe was also known for his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need, whether he knew them or not. Joe donated to several animal rescue organizations, veterans and other charities. He was indeed a kind and caring man.
Joe is survived by his brothers, Ken Zion of Wrentham and Teddy Zion of Middleboro, and his sisters Stephani Whaley and Mona Glover of Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.
Joe is also survived by several caring friends in Walpole, including his longtime friend John Sanzi and his dear friend Susan Silvi. A celebration of his life will be planned in the near future, please contact Sue Silvi for more information.
