Obituary

Augusta, GA – Lois Jean Gladd Dunlap, 92, loving wife of 63 years to the late Glenn Dunlap, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 24, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Platt’s Belair Rd. Chapel with Rev. Todd Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

Lois was born in Ft. Gibson, OK, and was raised during The Great Depression in Tahlequah which she always called home. It was during this time that she learned to appreciate hard work and love for her family. Lois was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation and was a direct descendent of Major George Lowrey, a decorated leader of the Cherokees. She and her husband traveled all around the world during his military career, all while raising a family. Lois worked in civil service for over 30 years until her retirement from Ft. Gordon. Many know and remember Lois from the years that she and her husband, Glenn owned and operated the Kings Crown Barber Shop in Martinez. She loved working at the shop and developed lasting relationships with the customers. Lois was an excellent cook. She was known for her homemade pies and German chocolate cake. Lois also had great taste. She was a classy dresser and always made a statement with her fashion. Lois accomplished many things in her life, but her greatest accomplishment was her family that she loved dearly. (Romans 8:38-39)

Survivors include four daughters; Glenda Jo Robinson (Ronald) of Martinez, Brenda Remkus (Paul Lester) of Evans, Debra Hatcher (Billy) of Evans, Joy Batten (Johnny) of Lincolnton, brother; Jerry Gladd (Evelyn) of Tahlequah, OK, sisters; Gladys McNeil of MO, Sarah Baker (Sonny) of Tahlequah, OK, sisters-in-law; Joan Gladd, Jeanette Gladd, Lea Alice Johnson, brothers-in-law; Jim Cookson, Harold Dunlap, 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her son-in-law; Jimmy Williams, three brothers; Wirt “Bud” Lowrey Gladd, Frank Gladd, Paul Gladd, three sisters; Mary Lou Dobson, Betty Jo Minor, and Patti Cookson.

Pallbearers will be Paden Remkus, James Williams, Brian Krouse, Tony Miller, Justin Fisher, and Joshua Pepe

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
