Virginia (Esmeraldo) Richmond, age 81, of Norton passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Hope Hospice in Providence. She was the beloved wife of Gordon H. Richmond, to whom she shared sixty-three years of marriage.
Born in Madeira Island, Portugal on November 22, 1936, she was a loving daughter of the late John Esmeraldo and Mary (Camara) Simmons.
Virginia spent her younger years living in Portugal. At the age of fourteen, she moved to the United States, settling in Norton where she has resided for the past sixty-seven years.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Richmond had been employed for twenty-eight years at the former Texas Instruments in Attleboro.
Family and friends were the focal point of Virginia’s life. She was a wonderful giving woman who received the greatest joy from the simple pleasures in life. She will always be remembered for her green thumb for gardening, and the mornings to nights spent maintaining her “garden of love” which beautified her entire yard in Norton.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her dear sister Celina Coelho of Fall River, Albina “Rita” Maynard of Attleboro and Patricia Phinney of Attleboro. She was the sister of the late Connie Bombardier, Cecelia Pimental. Manuel Esmeraldo, Madeline Proulx and John Esmeraldo. She is also survived by many-many loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday, July 27th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
Services, along with burial at the Norton Center Cemetery will be held privately at the convenience of her family.
In lieu of flowers, Virginia’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to Hope Hospice, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
