Obituary

SPRINGFIELD ~ Theresa A. “Terry” (Ruel) Patterson, 63, a longtime resident of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, July 23, 2018. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after a valiant battle with lung cancer. She was born in Springfield on February 7, 1955, a beloved daughter of the late Roland E. and Bella P. (Trottier) Ruel. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from the former Saint Joseph Elementary School and Cathedral High School and was a lifelong resident of Springfield. She was employed as a Test Consultant for the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. During her leisure time, Terry enjoyed candlepin bowling and
camping at the Oak Haven Family Campground in Wales, Massachusetts. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a longtime communicant of the former Saint Joseph Church and Our Lady of Hope Church, both in Springfield. Currently, she was a communicant of Mary, Mother of Hope Church in East Springfield. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend of over 34 years, Gary M. Patterson; her three loving children, Daniel J. Toniatti of Wilbraham, Diana M. Therrien and her husband, Craig, and Michelle J. Patterson, all of Springfield; her loving daughter-in-law, Karen M. (Fontaine) Toniatti of South Hadley; her four cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Damian, Laura, Paige and Andrew; her two dear brothers, Gerard R. “Jerry” Ruel of Alexandria, VA, and Philip F. Ruel and his wife, Linda, of Windsor Locks, CT; her dear sister, Joanne C. Edens and her husband, Raymond, of Springfield; and her dear brother-in-law, Roger Beaudoin of Nashua, NH. In addition, she leaves her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Patterson family, William Patterson, Daniel Patterson and his wife, Joan, Ellen Stonkus and her husband, Wally, Cheryl Smith and her husband, Nate, and Patricia Turner and her husband, Sam; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended members of the Patterson, Ruel and Toniatti families. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her loving son, Marc Anthony Toniatti who was Called Home on June 18, 2011; her dear sister, Mary E. “Beth” Beaudoin; her dear mother-in-law, June “Grandma Pat” Patterson; and her two dear brothers-in-law, Robert Patterson, Jr. and James Patterson. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, July 28, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. If desired, her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Sainte Rose de Lima Church, c/o 15 Chapel Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
