John F. Halliday 71, of Blackstone, died peacefully, Monday July 23, 2018 at the Tippett Home in Needham, following an illness. He was the beloved husband of Barbara F. (McManus) Halliday, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
Born September 21, 1946 in Cambridge, a son of the late John F. Halliday, Sr. and Audrey (Hughes) Halliday, he was a former resident of Dennisport and Franklin, before moving to Blackstone six years ago.
He was raised and educated in Cambridge, was a graduate of North Cambridge Catholic High School in 1964 and continued his education at Suffolk University, where he received his master’s degree in education & counseling.
John was a former director of rehabilitation in the state of Connecticut and retired after 23 years from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission.
John enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, fishing, reading, UCONN women’s basketball, and tending to his garden at the Cape.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Sean T. Halliday of Westfield, Mark D. Halliday and his wife Jennifer of Franklin and Glen F. Halliday and his fiancé Marie Dunlavey of Uxbridge, his siblings, Christine Halliday-Cacicedo, of PA, Joanne Marks of St. Augustine, FL, Janet Coppola of Burlington, Michael Halliday of Peabody and David Halliday of Dorchester.
Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth D., Nicole F., Connor J., Ryan J., Parker A., Riley J. Halliday, & Faith E. Dorgan-Halliday. and many nieces & nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Saturday July 28th, at 11AM in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin.
Calling hours are Saturday from 9-11AM prior to the service.
