John (Jack) C. Hurley, Jr., 84, formerly of Millis and Medway, passed to the Lord on July 21st. He was the loving husband of Rosemary (Longo) Hurley for the past 61 years.
Born in Boston, October 3, 1933, he was the son of the late John C. and Dorothy (Tormey) Hurley. Jack was raised in Dorchester and Jamaica Plain. Jack and Rosemary were married in Millis, MA and moved to Medway to raise their family. Upon retirement, they moved to Hyannis, MA and then later to Las Cruces, NM.
He was a 1952 graduate of Cathedral High School in Boston and a graduate of Spring Hill College of St. Joseph in Mobile, Alabama.
Mr. Hurley had been a teacher in Holliston, MA and at The Walsh Middle School in Framingham for over 30 years. Teaching was one of his great joys in life.
Jack was very active in the communities in which he lived. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus, (Milford Council), He served on the Tri County School Committee from the school’s inception, and he was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish Council in Medway.
Jack had a love and passion for baseball. Coaching Little League was another of his great joys. He coached little league in both Millis and Medway. He also coached the girl’s softball team at Marian High School in Framingham, MA.
Mr. Hurley served his country honorably and attained the rank of Lt. First Class, while serving in the Army during the late 1950’s.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, William P. Hurley and his wife Mechel of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Mary-Jo Hurley and her husband Luke P. Semmelrock of Douglas, MA, and John B. “Ben” Hurley of Beatty, Nevada.
Jack is also survived by his brother Michael Hurley of Scituate, and was the brother of the late Catherine Molloy and Gordon McLean.
John is also survived by his grandchildren Morgan and Anne Hurley.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 26 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway at 9:30 followed by a funeral mass in St. Thomas Church, Millis at 10:30.
Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Millis.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m.
