Robert G. “Bob” Merenda, age 84, of Woburn, MA and Sarasota, FL, passed away at his home in Woburn on July 21, 2018.
He was the son of the late Frances Delorey, born in Woburn, MA and the late Guy Merenda of Sicily, Italy.
Mr. Merenda leaves his loving wife Patricia A. Merenda of Woburn. He leaves his beloved children and grandchildren: Susan Merenda of Wilmington, MA, Robert W. Merenda and his companion Debora Sacco, of Woburn; his grandchildren: Sarah Bolduc and her husband Jake of Woburn, Robert J. Merenda and his fiancé Shannon Lynch of Woburn, Christopher Watt of Wilmington, and his great-grandson Cooper Bolduc of Woburn. He was the brother of the late Charles Merenda. He leaves his sister, Carolyn Merenda of Sarasota.
He leaves his niece Constance Kauffman and her husband Chuck of Sarasota. He was preceded in death by his nephews Mark, Bruce and Guy Merenda.
Throughout most of his life he was an avid softball and baseball player. He enjoyed golf and won many trophies during his life while bowling.
As a teenager he was recruited by the Red Sox and Dodgers baseball teams. An ankle injury unfortunately ended this dream.
Mr. Merenda was a member of the Sons of Italy in Winchester, MA. He was the past president of the Board of Directors at the Sons of Italy.
He lived in Winchester for 63 years before retiring and moving to Woburn. He and his wife spent their winters in Sarasota, FL.
He was the owner of Robert Merenda Floors for 46 years. His son Robert worked with his father for 19 years before taking the business upon his father’s retirement.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at Costello Funeral Home 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Tues., July 24 from 5-8PM and again on Wed. at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, at 10AM. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142 Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
