Walter Everett Mahoney, 74, of Staunton, Virginia, died July 16 in Augusta Health Center in Fishersville, Virginia. He was the husband of Carol Anne(Barret) Mahoney for the past 47 years.
Born in Boston, February 26,1944, the son of the late John E. and Loretta (Lemanski) Mahoney, Mr. Mahoney was raised in Newton and had lived in Franklin from 1971 until 2006 when he moved to Virginia.
He had been a custodian for the Town of Medway for over 25 years before retiring. Walter also operated his own roofing company for many years.
He enjoyed working out, cars, traveling and his dogs.
Mr. Mahoney served in the Army during the Vietnam War attaining in the rank of SP-4.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters, Karen Smith and her husband Andrew of West Dennis and Michelle Mahoney and her partner Scott Trufant of Millis.
He is also survived by his grandson Tyler Mahoney.
He was the brother of the later Blanche McGeever.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 24 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.gileyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway at 9:15 followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph’s Church at 10:00.
Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:00 p.m.
Calling hours will be on Monday from 5-8 p.m.
