Obituary

HIRAM- On Tuesday, July 17 around 7:30pm Roy Yarbrough (63) destroyed the cancer that he battled. He did so with courage and great sacrifice, as he did most things in life. No life can be captured in a paragraph or two, but here are the highlights: An Army brat himself, he followed in his father’s footsteps, working for Army intelligence and fighting in the Vietnam War. Roy spent over 40 years in the Semiconductor industry, leading the charge of innovative design, and holding over 50 patents. Those fortunate enough to work for and with him knew him to be a genius, great leader, and good friend. He bowled professionally for much of his adult life, touring the country and raising hell -- scoreboards need no longer fear his epic backswing. His 40-acre sheep farm in Hiram will miss seeing his flannel-clad person enjoying a campfire or grilling up steaks. His four dogs will both be and need much comfort in his absence.

Roy’s magnificent existence include his talented and lovely wife of 35 years, Julie; accomplished son Mellon; loving daughter Molly; gifted daughter Tran; outstanding daughter Cari; lifesaving daughter-in-law Holly; brilliant son-in-law Jim; quiet and kind partner to Tran, Sam; smart and caring partner to Cari, Alex, three beautiful, clever grandchildren: Aslan, Avan, and Adlie; beloved sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Philip; and two dear-to-his-heart nephews, John and Dallas. After much fun, many inside jokes, shared memories, and inappropriate humor, Roy took leave of this world and embarked on his next great adventure. We know he was greeted with open arms by his Mother, Irma, Father, Wes, and many, many happy dogs. We know not what he will conquer next, but we rest well in the assurance that it will be done with aplomb... and a smirk.

“Just remember what ol’ Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol’ storm right square in the eye and he says, ‘Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it.’” Keep driving that Porkchop Express.
