Richard James Nelson, 71, of Salem, died Saturday, July 14, 2018 from injuries sustained from a fall in Salem. He was the son of the late Philip J. and Beatrice H. (Smith) Nelson.
Born in Malden and raised in Melrose he was a special education student from a young age. He moved to Salem from Gloucester fifteen years ago and has been a resident of a group home under the auspices of North East ARC. Richard was an avid Red Sox fan and loved bowling and dancing. His smile and joy over the little things will be remembered by his family and friends.
He is survived by his sister, Gail M. Burke and her husband John W. of Peabody, a brother Philip P. Nelson of Oregon, Nieces and nephews Christopher Burke of Boxford, Joanne Peterson of Denver, CO & Erin Burke of Portland, OR as well as two grand- nephews, Daniel & Michael Burke and one grand-niece Aiyla Burke.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours at the Levesque Funeral home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 11:00 AM to conclude with his Memorial Service in the funeral home at 2:00 PM.
