Virginia “Ginny” M. (Lopes) Kearney, 85 of Whitman, MA beloved wife of Robert Kearney, passed away at home on July 17, 2018 after a brief illness. Ginny was a former longtime resident of Hanson, MA.
Born in Oak Bluff, MA in 1933 she was the eldest daughter of Frank and Rose Lopes. She graduated from Tisbury High School in 1951. After graduation she moved to Boston where she worked at Shawmut Bank before settling down to raise her family.
Ginny was an avid gardener and loved dancing and traveling. She was an active member of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Hanson since 1968.
Ginny married Bob in 2009 and for the last 9 years they enjoyed travelling all over the world. She was also the wife of the late Frederick Dunne and Arthur Foley.
She is survived by her six children, Denise Dunne and her fiancée Gabe Volpe of Bridgewater, Eric Dunne and his wife Ann of Hanson, Jeannine Dunne of Dublin, NH, Elaine Cordeiro and her companion Ken Richardson of Plympton, Brian Dunne and his companion Sandy Thayer of Whitman and Scott Foley and his wife Megan of Marlborough, CT. Ginny also had 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and is also survived by her brother Carl Lopes and his wife Barbara and her sister Bernice Lopes all of Vineyard Haven, MA. She was the sister of the late Kathleen Silva.
Her services will be held Saturday July 21 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Friday July 20 from 4:00-7:00 PM.
