Charles R. Hackett, 82

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Charles R. Hackett, age 82, of Mansfield, affectionately known as “Bob” and “Captain Charlie” by his friends and neighbors passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth E. Hackett, who died on June 25, 2015.

Born in Gardner, MA on February 25, 1936, he was a loving son of the late Charles D. and Edith V. (Kelley) Hackett.

He grew up and was educated in Gardner, and from 1955-1959 proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. He had made his home in Mansfield for nearly fifty years.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Hackett worked as a job shopper at the Honeywell Corporation. Following retirement he worked various security jobs for Gray Security, at Dub’s Liquors in Mansfield and also volunteered at the Mansfield Green Recycling Center.

He was well known for his love of tinkering with electronics, served as a past CB radio club president, and when younger was an avid skier and served on the Ski Patrol at various ski resorts.

He is survived by his dear brother Robert Hackett of Hubbardston and was the brother of the late Barbara Nartiofski.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his graveside funeral service along with military honors on Tuesday, July 24th at 1:00 P.M. at the Knollwood Memorial Park, 321 High St., Canton. Those attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Visiting hours have been omitted and in lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
