Herbert R. Turner, 89, of New Bedford died Saturday, July 14, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Julia M. (Gibau) Turner, with whom he had shared 64 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Olive S. Turner, he lived in New Bedford for all of his life.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Herbert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was formerly employed by Hoyt Manufacturing Corporation in Westport as a supervisor for over 40 years until his retirement.
Herbert was an avid sportsfan, enjoyed gardening, and loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include, his wife; his son, Robert H. Turner and his wife Terri of Plymouth; his daughter, Pamela L. Haywood and her husband Steven of Randolph; three granddaughters, Sheri Smith of Bourne, Jennifer Meeks of Henderson, NV, and Camyle Haywood of Margate, FL; his great-grandson, Elijah; three great-granddaughters, Jayla, Leah, and Ava; his sister, Yvonne Burgo; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Michelle M. Turner, and his siblings, Louise Houtman, Alma Condol, Barbara James, Norman L. Turner, and Bettyann Rosa.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.
