Acushnet – Helen M. (Currin) Wood was born in Stovall, North Carolina in the summer of 1925 a daughter of the late Roger L. and Cora (Nelson) Currin.
Helen worked on the family’s farm and graduated from Stovall High School where she played team softball. Helen joined her brother, Charlie C. Currin in Fairhaven after World War II ended and worked at Cornell Dubilier. In 1952 she married Horace Wood of New Bedford who predeceased her.
Helen attended the First Baptist Church in New Bedford and served as a deacon and as church clerk for many years. As the church clerk, she did extensive research on the church’s history. She worked at both the Star Store and Fashion Bug in New Bedford before retiring. As a fanatical life-long Red Sox fan, Helen rarely missed seeing or hearing “Her Team” play. She loved gardening, growing beefsteak tomatoes, knitting and traveling the United States with her family.

Wood and Cynthia Wood, all of Acushnet; three grandchildren, William Addison, John Addison and Lisa Gerardi; her three great-grandchildren, Jon Paul, Teagen and Tatum; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
