Obituary

Virginia "Bobbie" (Sylvia) Alexander, 95, of New Bedford passed away Tuesday July 10, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late David P. Alexander.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Alfred and Virginia (Gracia) Sylvia, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Alexander was formerly employed as a cafeteria worker at Carney Academy and Keith Junior High School until her retirement.
She took great pride in the City of New Bedford, always keeping abreast of local politics and never missed voting in an election. She enjoyed line dancing, yodeling, and playing the piano. She also was fond of visiting area clubs to listen to various Country and Western bands. She especially loved taking care of her granddogs, Nikki, Isis, Jack, Chester, Lexi, and Blue.
Bobbie followed three ideals in life - charity begins at home, be a true blue friend, and always vote.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Alexander; her siblings, Wallace Sylvia, Wilhelmina Reynolds, and Winona Barboza; two grandchildren, Michael DeCosta and his wife Patricia and Rachel Joseph; a great-grandson; and a great-great-grandson.
At her request, funeral services will be private. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
