Joseph Robert Shields, 85, of Franklin died peacefully July 9 following a long illness. He was the husband of the late Frances M. (Daley) Shields who died in 2000.
Born in Dorchester, February 1,1933, the son of the late John J. and Mary E. (Cullinane) Shields, Mr. Shields had lived in Franklin since 1966.
He had been an electrician for Union Local 103 for over 40 years.
Joseph had served in the Air Force during the Korean War attaining the rank of Airman First Class.
Joe enjoyed playing poker in his spare time.
He is survived by his children, Joseph R. Shields, Jr. of Rising Sun, Maryland, Robert Shields and his wife Rachel of Merrimack, New Hampshire, Steven Shields and his wife April of Bellingham and Linda Netto and her husband Stephen of Franklin.
He was the loving “papa’ to his eight grandchildren, Nicole, Amber, Jess, Brittany, Taylor, Morgan, Sarah and Joshua.
His funeral will be held on Friday, July 13 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street Franklin at 9:00 followed by a funeral mass in St. Jude’s Church, Norfolk at 10:00
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
