Julia "Vovo" Fernandes Lopes (103) of Boston died July 9th at home surrounded by family and friends. She was the loving wife of the late Joao Jose Lopes.
She was born in Sao Lourenco, Fogo, Cabo Verde daughter of the late Foustino Fernandes and Gertrude da Silva. Julia was a communicant of St. Patrick's Parish in Roxbury.
Julia was the root to "Our Tree" that extended into branches of 8 children, Severino "Djedje" F. Lopes, Manuela F. Gomes, Joao "Josezinho" D. Fernandes, Maria V. Barbosa, Joaquin V. Fernandes, Fausta Lopes Depina, Florencio Jose Lopes and the late Amelia D. Fernandes and grew into 41 grandchildren, blossoming into 152 great grandchildren, continued to grow to 40 great great grandchildren and 1 great great great grandchild.
Funeral Mass in St. Patrick's Parish 400 Dudley Street Roxbury Saturday July 14th at 10 am. Burial will take place next week in Sao Lourenco, Fogo, Cabo Verde. Visitation in St. Patrick’s Parish Friday July 13th from 5-9 pm. Funerarias Multi Culturel is assisting the family in travel arrangements.
