Obituary

Dale Langdon Sherburne passed away July 8, 2018 after a brief illness. Born in Woburn, Mass., he was the son of William Haven Sherburne, DDS and Barbara (Blank) Sherburne. His is pre-deceased by his brother, William Haven Sherburne, Jr., of Clearwater, Fl., (who first coined the family’s well-known phrase, “long and silky is the horses tail, lift it up, and you’ll see Dale”, which earned Dale our endearing nickname, “the horses tail”), and by his sister, Sally (Sherburne) Finn of Winchester, Mass.
Although graduating with honors from Bentley University, Uncle Dale knew that a desk job wasn’t for him, so he joined the U.S. postal service and served as a letter carrier in the town of Winchester until his retirement. He was an avid hockey fan and skilled musician, playing country-folk standards on guitar, banjo, mandolin, and his famous autoharp (a string instrument that is by-and-large unknown this far from the Appalachians). He will be remembered for his quick, sarcastic wit and natural musical talent.
He leaves his brother-in-law, Jay M. Finn, of Winchester, his great nephew Master Sargent Jeffrey Haase (USAF), his wife Laura, and great-great nieces Ava and Lila of Bedford, Mass, his nephew Bradford Jay (Finn) Sherburne, his partner Katie Wickham, great niece and nephew Meredith and Wyatt Sherburne of West Hartford, CT., nieces Dixie (Sherburne) Haase of Clearwater, FL and Haven Sherburne of Largo, FL, great niece Holly Ernst, her husband Dean and son Aaron of Boynton Beach, FL, and his nephew Frederick B. Sherburne of Hialeah, FL. A Graveside Service will be held at Woodbrook Cemetery, 100 Salem St., Woburn, will be held on Saturday, September 8 at 10AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
