George Rogers, 84, former New Bedford mayor, longtime city councilor, and member of the state House and Senate, died Saturday June 30, 2018.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel F. and Rose (Soares) Rogers, he lived in New Bedford all of his life. He was a graduate of Providence College.
A longtime public servant in New Bedford, Mr. Rogers had served as mayor and city councilor, as well as in both the Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senate. He also had a long career as an educator, having taught at Fairhaven High School and Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School.
He is survived by a niece, a nephew, and a godchild.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday July 10, 2018 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
