Obituary

Elinor R. (Coyne) Creagh age 102, died July 3, 2018 at Liberty Commons Rehabilitation & Skilled Care in Chatham after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of the late William F. Creagh.

Elinor was born and raised in Brockton, daughter of the late John and Agnes (Brown) Coyne. Elinor was the sister of the late Marian Downey, George Coyne, Alice Adams, Ina Mae Crowe and John Coyne.

Following graduation from Brockton High School in 1934, Elinor worked as a secretary at The Eastern Mass. Bus Company until her marriage. After marrying and having children, she focused on her family for the next years. As the children grew older Elinor returned to work as a secretary at the Brockton School Department first at the Hancock School and then in the Guidance Dept at West Junior High School until her retirement in 1980. Upon retiring Elinor moved to Sandwich where she enjoyed days at the beach with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also spent time volunteering at the Henry T. Wing School and the Sandwich Glass Museum, and was active in church groups at Corpus Christi Church in Sandwich.

Also during retirement, Elinor traveled extensively with a Cape Cod Travel group to many places including Alaska, China and most European countries. When at home Elinor enjoyed knitting, crocheting, rug hooking, crossword puzzles, and playing her favorite Scrabble with friends and grandchildren. Truth be told, she was hard to beat at Scrabble. Cooking was an additional hobby and Elinor was famous in Sandwich-and family-wide for her brownies, lemon squares and “coffee can treats.”

Elinor was the mother of John Creagh and his wife Alice of Hanover, NH; Carolyn O’Leary and her husband Jay of East Sandwich, Marybeth Toler and her husband Mike of New Windsor, NY and the late Jane Ally. Elinor also leaves 10 grandchildren John O’Leary, Amy Creagh Good, Megan O’Leary, Brendan Creagh, Erich Toler, Erinn O’Leary Lawson, Matthew Toler, Kevin Ally, Jeffrey Toler and Maureen Dalton and 14 great grandchildren Seamus Good, Allyce Good, Patrick Lawson, Jack Lawson, Matthew O’Leary, Aiden Toler, Tynan Creagh, Kaelin Creagh, Katelyn Lawson, Cole Dalton, Whitney Toler, Claire Toler, Abigale Toler and Madalyn Ally. She is also survived by her extended family including many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Corpus Christi Church, Sandwich, on July 14, 2018 at 12 noon. Burial will be at a later date in the family lot in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elinor's name to the VNA of Cape Cod and the Islands.
