Obituary

Kent LaGasse was a man of endearing boyish charm, rapier wit, and an unquenchable thirst for higher learning as evidenced by his multiple degrees.

Kent was born December 13, 1962. He leaves his mother, Barbara Kelly; brothers Lawrence, Tim, Matt, Brett and Brian; and a sister, Joelle. Kent's stepfather is Joel Kelly. Kent's father, Eugene LaGasse, predeceased him. His stepmother is Patty LaGasse.

Kent was raised in Madison, CT and graduated from Fitch High School in Groton, CT prior to obtaining several undergraduate, Masters, as well as PhD and MD degrees from: Northfield University, University of Connecticut; Community Medicine and Public Health, London, England Ken received Commendation Letters for his medical research November 1995 from President William J. Clinton, U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman, and U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd. Kent was awarded in 2014 the Iraqi Freedom Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He received the National Korean Defense Medal in 2006. Kent was also awarded a Unit Citation Medal in 2005 from DOD and U.S. Congress, as he was nominated by the U.S. Commander in Iraq for Outstanding Medial Service provided to injured Soldiers during duty as the Battalion Operations Officer (S-3) at the 168 Medical Battalion, Korea, 2005.

As a physician, Kent joined the Army. At his last post he oversaw medical procedures for injuries/concerns obtained off the field. During that post Kent contracted meningitis, complications of which took his life on June 11, 2018.

Kent left active Army service after returning stateside for a three-year recuperation prior to entering his final academic program, a Masters of Divinity.

A Memorial Service will be held at Noank Baptist Church,18 Cathedral Heights, Noank CT on Saturday, July 14, at 11:00am.
