Obituary

Francis L. "Frank" Kelly, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 86 years of age.

Frank was born at home in Charlestown on February 16, 1932, a son of the late Carl Kelly and Laura (Snyder) Kelly. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1950. Frank enlisted into the United States Army on November 19, 1952 and served his country with honor and courage during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on November 4, 1954 with the rank of Corporal. Frank worked for Sylvania Electronics as a Manager for 17 years before working for the United States Postal Service at South Postal Annex in South Boston as a Postal Clerk and retired following 20 years of dedicated service. Frank grew up in St. Mary's Parish in Charlestown where he received most of his sacraments and was an active member of St. Francis De Sales Parish in Charlestown. Frank was an avid coin collector and a member of the Charlestown American Legion Post # 26 and the D.A.V.

Frank is the beloved husband of 63 years to Barbara A. (Peters) Kelly. He is the devoted father of Barbara "Barney" McGonagle and her late husband Patrick, Francis "Kicker" Kelly and his wife Maura, Nancy Kelly Wright and her late husband G.T., Kathleen Higgins, Kevin Kelly and his wife Maureen, Maureen Kelly and longtime family friend Diane Barry, Jane Kelly and Billy Cantin and Jill Moynihan and her husband Danny. He is the loving Grandpa to 23 grandchildren and the late Bryan McGonagle and Kaitlyn Kelly and also his 7 great-grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Helen McClung, Anne Castro and the late Marguerite "Tootsie" Young, Mary Kelleher, John "Buddy" Kelly, Charlie Kelly, Billy Kelly, Jimmy Kelly, Paul Kelly and Tommy Kelly. He is also lovingly survived by his many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Frank's Funeral on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. His visiting hours will be on Sunday, July 8, 2018 from 2 to 6 P.M. in the funeral home.
