Obituary

Mrs. Judith Ann Manning (Paulsen), a resident of Andover, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Friday, June 29, 2018 after a chronic and rare pulmonary illness. She was 76 years old.

Jude was the beloved wife of 39 years to Paul L. Manning Jr. and loving mother of Rebecca and her husband Justin Zuill of Bedford, NH along with her step children; Paul and his wife Ruthann Manning of Methuen, Whitney and her husband Paul Keeley of Windham, New Hampshire, Melissa and her husband Anthony Morgante of Andover and the late David A. Manning of Manhattan, NY. She was the daughter of her cherished late parents Gordon Paulsen and Geraldine Polk.

Jude was a graduate of Stoneham High School, class of 1959 and of the Massachusetts College of Art. Jude had a very successful career at Star Market company that spanned over 25 years where she held various positions and ultimately became the Advertising Manager. After leaving Star, she became one of the owner operators of Lasso the Moon, an antique and gift shop in East Burke, VT with her husband and dear friends Bobby Baker and David Thomas. In addition, Jude enjoyed spending time creating and selling unique gifts, jewelry, prints and antiques through multiple vendor booths at the Quechee Gorge antique mall in Quechee, VT.

Jude was a talented and skilled artist and approached everything through a creative lens. She loved to decorate, garden, listen to music and read, as well as browse through flea markets and antique shops for unique finds. She cherished all of her cats including her most recent faithful black cat and friend, Maggie, who never left her side. Jude was very well versed on many topics and had a very intelligent and curious mind, always remaining up to date on current events. Jude set the bar high for herself and others, and worked hard to achieve all that she had accomplished in her life. For many years, Jude and her husband enjoyed travelling extensively to the Caribbean, Ireland and Germany. In addition, the family spent much of their summer weekends on their boat The Vermont Alternative navigating the waters of the North Shore particularly the Essex and Annisquam rivers, even charting a trip all the way to Cape Cod Bay. In 1984 the family purchased a house up in East Burke, VT where Jude enjoyed spending time skiing on the slopes of Burke Mountain with family. She loved the solitude of the mountains and the time spent there developing lifelong friendships. Her most cherished time in more recent years was spent as the proud grandmother to her six beloved grandchildren Savannah, Owen, Madyson, Adeline, Anthony and Linda.

In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, Jude is survived by aunts and uncles, cousins, and so many dear friends. We are forever grateful for the care she received from Mass General Hospital by Dr. McLean, Dr. Gibbons, Dr. Hurtado and Dr. Queshi.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 9th at the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover, MA from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, followed by the funeral service at Free Christian Church, 31 Elm Street, Andover at 12:30.
