Walter F. Nadolny, Sr. 91, of Franklin died June 25 in Genesis of Milford Center. He was the husband of the late Antoinette M. (Pizzi) Nadolny who died in 2010.
Born in North Bellingham, December 3,1926, the son of the late Alexsander and Bronislawa (Pupek) Nadolny, Mr. Nadolny was raised in Bellingham and had lived in Franklin for the past 62 years.
Mr. Nadolny was a graduate of Bellingham High School, class of 1947. He also graduated from Dean Academy in 1948, attended Tilton Academy and was a 1953 graduate of St. Michaels College with a B.A. in Education.
Walter had worked in the Bellingham school system for 34 years.
He had been a teacher for 14 years and the Principal of the Keough School and Vice Principal of the South Bellingham School District.
During the Summer months he worked at Dean College painting the dorm rooms for over 20 years.
While at Bellingham High School he played baseball and basketball. At Dean he played baseball and football, at Tilton he played football and he also played football at St. Michaels.
Walter had coached the Bellingham Jr. High School basketball team for many years. He also had coached Franklin Youth Baseball and basketball and won many championships, while coaching his sons.
An avid sports fan of all the Boston Professional teams he also was a fan of Boston College and Merrimack College hockey, Duke University Basketball and the PGA golf tour.
Walter was a lector and altar server for 13 years at St. Mary’s Church for funerals.
He was a member of the Nipmuc Rod & Gun Club. The Franklin Rod and Gun Club, Ducks Unlimited and the Massachusetts Retired Teachers’ Association.
Mr. Nadolny served in the Marine Corps during the end of World War II, and was stationed in China. He attained the rank of Private First Class, classified as a marksman.
Walter’s hobbies were fishing, hunting, nature and the outdoors, vegetable gardening, country music, polka music and big band music, he was very fond of the Lawrence Welk show.
He is survived by his sons Walter F. Nadolny, Jr. and David M. Nadolny of Franklin.
He was the brother of the late Stephen and Dominic Nadolny.
He is also survived by his brother-in-law Michael Pizzi of Franklin and his niece Cherie (Nadolny) Langlois and her husband Richard and great-nephews Matt and Steve Langlois.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 30 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin at 9:00 followed by a funeral mass in St. Jude’s Church, Norfolk at 10:00
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin.
