TEWKSBURY - Mrs. Mildred F. (Corliss) O’Callaghan, age 92, died peacefully in the care of her family and hospice on Monday, June 25, after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of James J. O’Callaghan, who died in 1992.
Mildred was born July 1925, and was raised in Somerville, Massachusetts. She met Jim while studying at a library there, and the two were married and moved to Tewksbury in 1953. Mildred worked as a teacher at Cole’s Kindergarten in the early fifties while raising her family. She was truly a beloved matriarch, raising her children and grandchildren in her loving home. Mildred always enjoyed being around those she cared about. Whether it was making summer memories in Maine, trips to the casino, or bringing the family together for the holidays, she brought love and joy to all of those around her. She became an active member of the Tewksbury Senior Center where she enjoyed painting, trips to Italy, and making great friends. She was also a member of the Tewksbury United Methodist Church community and will be remembered for the great life she lived.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Gould and her husband Herbert W. of Pepperell, Edith Minton and her husband Dennis of Tewksbury, with whom she resided; a daughter-in-law, Elaine (Murray) O’Callaghan of Tewksbury who was the wife of her late son, James W. O’Callaghan; six grandchildren: James J. O’Callaghan, M.D. and his wife Jane Yeh, M.D. of Seattle, W; Cynthia (Gould) and Brian Boucek of Pepperell; Peter and Melissa O’Callaghan of Burlington, VT; Wendy-Beth Minton and Zachary Kissel of Atkinson NH; Dennis James Minton of Cincinnati, OH; Jamie Minton and Christopher Daly of Portsmouth, NH; five great grandchildren: Juliana, Jaden, Matthew, Andrew, and William; many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by her grandson, Robert O’Callaghan; brother, Lawrence Corliss and sister Reginia “Jean” Corliss.
Visiting hours Thursday 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her funeral will begin Friday, June 29, at 11:00 from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon in the Tewksbury United Methodist Church, corner of South and Main Sts. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
