Obituary


STANDISH- Harold G. “Monk” Hebert born in Buxton, Maine on January 12, 1929 to Albert and Abby Peterson Hebert, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 23, 2018. Harold attended Buxton schools. He joined the Navy in 1946 and served as a ship fitter in the Atlantic Task Force aboard the USS Missouri and the USS Gearing. Harold married Helen Floyd in 1948 and would have celebrated seventy years of marriage on July 1, 2018. He was a member of the Standish Congregational Church, Buxton Masonic Lodge #115, active in the Shriners and Log Rollers Unit, the American Legion in Hollis, life member of the Buxton Rod & Gun Club, life member of the Pleasant River Chapter and active as “Dad Advisor” for their Rainbow girls assembly receiving the Grand Cross of Color, Dad advisor for DeMolay, life member of the NRA, and was active in both the York & Cumberland County Shriners Clubs.
Harold worked for Central Maine Power as area superintendent of southern Maine hydros for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1992.
Harold is predeceased by his parents, infant son Stanley Thomas, brothers James, Frank, Albert, and Eugene, sisters Gladys Cass and Beatrice Hutchins.
He is survived by his loving wife Helen of 70 years, sons Marshall & his companion Cheryl of Buxton, John & his wife Jane of Hollis, daughter Marie Estes & husband Steve of Standish, four grandsons: Bryan Hebert & his companion Veronica of Saco, Ben Hebert of N.Y., Adam Estes & his wife Kimberley of Boynton Beach, Florida, Eric Estes of Palm Beach, Florida. One granddaughter, Kelsey Hebert of Brandon, FL, one great grandson Stephen Estes of Standish, three great granddaughters: Maggie Hebert of Saco, Chloe and Gianna Estes of Standish, sister Blanche Harriman and companion Richard Smith of Standish and a niece Annette Stevens & husband Jon of Gorham.
Harold loved his family dearly and especially loved getting together for cookouts and parties. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and bus trips. He especially loved his camp in Eustis.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday June 28 from 6 – 8 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. During the visiting hours at 7:30 PM, Masonic Funeral Honors will be held. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow with US Navy Honors at South Buxton (Tory Hill) Cemetery.
