Doris M. (Joyce) Messenheimer, a 59 year resident of Charlestown and formerly of South Boston, entered into eternal life on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at her home in Charlestown. She was 88 years of age.
Doris was born in Boston on July 13, 1929, a daughter of the late Martin J. Joyce and Bernice (Fisher) Joyce. She grew up in South Boston where she was educated at Gate of Heaven Parochial School and graduated from Girls High School in Boston. Doris worked for New England Telephone Company for a period of time before working for the United States Government (GSA) as a Federal Communication Clerk and retired following many years of dedicated service. Her passion in life was her family and she enjoyed the quality times spent with her children and grandchildren.
Doris is the devoted mother of Paula Messenheimer and her husband Raymond Harris of Nashville, Tennessee, John "Jack" Messenheimer and his wife Jody of Nashua, New Hampshire, Carol Messenheimer of Charlestown, Linda Halley of Saugus, Brian Messenheimer and Sally O'Neill of Wakefield and the late Judith Messenheimer. She is the loving Grandmother to Michael Halley and his wife Christine, Courtney Stearns and her husband Michael, Matthew Harris and Kirstie Bidwell, Alex Harris and her great-grandchildren Owen and Corinne Halley. She is the beloved sister of Kenneth Joyce and the late Martin J. Joyce Jr., Robert Joyce, Bernard Joyce, Claire Joyce and John Joyce. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Doris's visiting hours on Saturday morning, June 30, 2018 from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. Her burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
