Russell C. Garcia, Sr., 92, of Worcester died Sunday, June 24th in St. Vincent Hospital. He leaves his wife of 71 years, Lucy M. (Valerio) Garcia; two sons, Russell C. Garcia, Jr. and his wife, Donna, Richard J. Garcia and his wife, Carol all of Worcester; a daughter, Patrica A. Lachance and her husband, Gerard of South Yarmouth; five grandchildren, Kara Hendrickx, Patrick Lachance, Dustin Garcia, Matthew Garcia and Jessica Garcia; five great grandchildren, Connor, William and Hannah Lachance and Finn and Rory Hendrickx.
He was born in New York City, New York the son of Jose and Della (Pedjoe) Garcia. Russell was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He worked for Wyman Gordan for 36 years as a forklift operator, retiring in 1987. Mr. Garcia was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church, the Worcester Lodge of Elks and the Steel Workers Union where he once served as secretary. He was an avid New England sports fan who appreciated listening to the games on the radio. Russell enjoyed golfing, shopping and summers at Hampton Beach. His favorite pastime was grandchildren’s sports events, theater productions and dance recitals. In his younger years, Russell played on Wyman Gordan’s softball team.
His funeral service is Wednesday, June 27th in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at a later date. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 AM until the start of the service.
