Robert A. Hennigan, Sr., 87, of Worcester died Thursday, June 21st in Notre Dame Long Term Care. His wife of 56 years, Ann Patricia (Shea) Hennigan died in 2011. He leaves a son, Steven R. Hennigan and his wife, Beverly of Charlton; and a daughter, Susan M. Hennigan of Taunton. He was predeceased by a son, Robert A. Hennigan Jr. in 2008.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Francis and Margaret (Shea) Hennigan and graduated from South High School and Worcester State College. Mr. Hennigan was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean War. Robert was a teacher for 40 years with the Worcester Public Schools, retiring 1992. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, the Worcester Lodge of Elks and the Greendale Retired Men’s Club.
For over 20 years, Robert loved spending his winters in Zephyrhills, FL. When his children were young he devoted his time to camping, skiing, kayaking and summers at Hampton Beach. He loved his family and friends.
His funeral is Tuesday, June 26th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, June 25th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
