Margaret C. Duren, 89 of Franklin passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at the Countryside Health Care in Milford.
Born on November 10, 1928 in Wilkes Barre, PA she was the daughter of the late Rev. Lloyd A. and Margaret C. (Dixson) Duren.
Margaret graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1949. She then went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Education from the Boston University School of Education.
She taught for 27 years in the Franklin public school system and 10 years in Mendon.
Margaret was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of Founders and Patriots, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Professional Society of Women Educators, NEA, REAM, MTA and the Franklin First United Methodist Church.
She was fiercely and inspirationally independent. She was a skilled photographer, traveler and organist. Margaret loved animals and bred and showed many of her beloved Carin Terriers over decades. She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and loyal to the Syracuse University NCAA teams.
“Aunt Peggy" was a devoted and beloved family member who always shared her intelligence, and good humor along with family history and love, leaving a legacy of grace with her nieces, nephews, their spouses, their children, and their grandchildren.
She is survived by her brother Charles A. Duren (Ann), nephews; Stephen L. Duren (Molly), Mark W. Duren (Jan Fontana), Thomas L. Duren; Nieces: Kathleen L. (Duren) White and her husband David, Deborah A. Duren and her husband Paul Faille, Nancy L. (Duren) Russo and her husband Joseph. She was the sister of the late Rev. Lloyd A. Duren and Aunt to the late Paul G. Duren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Franklin First United Methodist Church at a date TBD. A private graveside service will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Douglas.
