Obituary

WELLS- Marion Gusoff Muchant passed away in Wells, Maine on June 21, 2018. Marion was born on February 7, 1932, and raised in Marianna, PA, the youngest child of six children born to James Gusoff and Bertha Payanoff Gusoff. She graduated from West Beth High School in 1949. After marrying Robert Muchant on February 2, 1950, she relocated to a farm in Deemston, PA where the couple raised five daughters. From 1968 through 1983, Marion worked as an office manager in Brownsville, PA, which provided her with a sense of independence and strength that was shared with her daughters. In addition to her work outside the home, and reveling in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, Marion enjoyed solving Sunday crossword puzzles, working in her garden (her flower beds were a sight to behold) visiting with friends on the back deck, and volunteering at Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Deemston and at the Fredericktown (PA) Public Library. After Robert’s death, Marion moved to River Woods in Lewisburg, PA where she made a new set of friends. Earlier this year, she moved to Avita in Wells, Maine to receive specialized memory care.
Preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband (2010) and one daughter (Anita, 2008), Marion is survived by four daughters, Sheila Littlefield (Michael; Kennebunk, ME) Dianne Muchant (Robert Hazard; Lewisburg, PA) Cynthia Kane (Joe; Carolina, RI) and Carolyn Taraban (Roman; Lubbock, TX), five grandchildren—Justin Littlefield (Tina; Wellesley, MA), Rob Kane (Florence, Italy) Tom Kane (Boston, MA), Lindsay Taraban and Meghan Taraban (both in Pittsburgh PA), and two “grape” grandchildren, Olivia and Owen Littlefield, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, including Beverly Roberts of Raleigh, NC.
The family would like to thank the staff of Griswold Home Care in Bloomsburg, PA and of Avita of Wells, Maine for their care of Marion as her health declined over the past few years. Her daughters have often commented that “it takes a village to care for a mother” and are grateful for the assistance of some excellent “villagers.”
Donations in memory of Marion Muchant may be made to the Fredericktown Public Library (38 Water St, Fredericktown, PA 15333). A private memorial service will be planned at a later date.
