Archetta Marie “Jackie” (Matarazzo) Aurigemma, a life-long resident of Somerville, passed away on Monday, June 18th at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 85.
Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Michelina (Mazzarella) Matarazzo, and attended local schools. Jackie graduated from Somerville High School with the Class of 1950.
Most recently, Jackie worked as a cashier at Stop and Shop, but in earlier years she worked as a hair dresser. In her spare time, she loved being with her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, bowling and taking trips to the casino. Jackie was a loving and caring person who loved to be with people.
She was the beloved wife of Bruno M. Aurigemma. The two married on September 6, 1953 at St. Polycarp Church in Somerville. Together they shared 65 loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Leonard B. Aurigemma of Cambridge, Michael A. Aurigemma and his wife Jane of Medford, and Laurie A. Aurigemma of Waltham. Jackie was the loving grandmother of Nicole M. Carter and her husband Thomas of Haverhill, Michael A. Aurigemma, Jr. of Lucerne, Switzerland and formerly of Medford, and the loving great grandmother of Camille G. and Adeline R. Carter, both of Haverhill. She was the dear sister of Clara J. Matarazzo of Somerville, Robert Matarazzo, Margaret Bouyer and the late Antoinette Ruggiero, Anthony Matarazzo, Dolores Reilly and Rose Aurigemma. Jackie is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Friday, June 22nd at 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Ann Church, 399 Medford Street, Somerville at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
