George Stephen Scruton 79, of Pocasset formerly of Needham, died on Friday November 18, 2005 at the Rehabilitations of Cape Cod and the Islands after along battle with cancer and ALS. Born in Boston Mr. Scruton graduated from Northeastern School of Engineering, he received his Bachelor of Science and Mechanical Engineering degree in 1946. He took his graduate courses at John Hopkins University from 1947-1948. He later served with the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Since 1961 Mr. Scruton has been a Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. His career began with the designing and building of pressure vessels and for the past 25 years George has been involved in the Nuclear Energy Industry. A resident of Needham for 42 years ,he also summered in Pocasset for 40 years prior to retiring to Pocasset 11 years ago. George was the beloved husband of Barbara J. (Johnson). Loving father of Ann C. Keller of Cataumet and Stephen G. Scruton of Dover. Brother of Louise Derry of Weymouth and Edith Smathers of Canton. Dear grandfather of Graesyn M and Kyle S. Scruton of Dover. Also survived by 7 nieces and nephews. Funeral services at the Congregational Church of Needham 1154 Great Plain Ave on Tuesday November 22nd at 11:00 AM.
