Manuel Rego, Jr., 80, of New Bedford died June 15, 2018 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the husband of Ruth A. (Anderson) Rego.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Rapoza) Rego he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Rego was formerly employed by J.C. Rhodes, Dartmouth Finishing and Wakefield Engineering.
He was a member of the Fairhaven Coast Guard Auxiliary, Acushnet Safe Boating Club, Low Tide Yacht Club and a lifetime member of Fin, Fur & Feather Club. He enjoyed boating and fishing.
Mr. Rego served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife; 4 sons, Michael T. Rego and his wife Anna of Amherst, NH, Robert J. Rego and his wife Kristin M. of Marion, James A. Rego and his fiancée Kelly Winterson of New Bedford and Christopher M. Rego of New Bedford; a brother, Franklin D. Rego of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Nancy Brown and Deborah Branquinho, both of New Bedford; his aunt, Evelyn Costa of Dartmouth; 10 grandchildren, Emily, Michael, Jr., Mary, Nicholas, Janey, Kristen, Thomas, Erin, Avery and Aubrey; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the grandfather of the late Andrew Rego and Alex Rego.
His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 23rd at 10 AM in St. Martin's Episcopal Church, New Bedford. Burial will be Monday, June 25th at 2:30 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours are omitted. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
