Dehler, Gilbert F., June 13, 2018, age 90, peacefully at the German Center, West Roxbury where he resided for the past eight years. Beloved husband of fifty-five years of the late Mary “Esther” (Brady) Dehler. Loving father of Mary (Dehler) McCusker and her husband James of Franklin and Francis Dehler and his wife Laura of Cape Neddick, ME. Cherished Poppa of Elizabeth McCusker of Franklin and the late Ryan McCusker. Devoted brother of the late Joan Mullen, Carol Sullivan and Kevin Dehler. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Gil was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY before moving to Boston in 1956. Formerly a Paulist Seminarian, he earned three Master’s degrees and taught Latin and history for over twenty-five years at Norwood High School and five years at North Quincy High School. He was an avid reader and enjoyed classical music as well as summers in York, ME. He had a great love for European travel, particularly visiting Austria and Germany. Most of all Gil will be remembered for his kind manner and true gentleman’s nature.
Funeral from the Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St., West Roxbury on Monday, June 18, at 9:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Jamaica Plain at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, June 17, from 4:00 to 7:00pm. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
