Evelyn Frances (White) Caffrey, age 98, died at her home In Andover, MA on June 12, 2018. Mrs. Caffrey was born on October 22, 1919 in Lawrence, MA and was the daughter of J. Edward and M. Estella (O’Connell) White.
She graduated from Emmanuel College in Boston, MA with a degree in mathematics in 1941. While at Emmanuel, she met Andrew A. Caffrey and they were engaged during his service in Europe during World War II. They married on June 26, 1946 and built the family home in Andover in 1949 where they raised their six children and delighted in the company of grandchildren, great grandchildren, neighbors and friends.
Mrs. Caffrey is survived by her children, Augustine J. Caffrey and his wife, Adele Boison of Idaho Falls, ID; Andrew A. Caffrey, Jr. and his wife, Alice, of Greenwich, NJ; Mary Louise Caffrey and her husband, Kenneth Stewart of Keene, NH; Francis J. Caffrey of Andover, MA and Joseph H. Caffrey and his wife, Camilla, of Worcester, MA. Her husband was the former Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court in Boston and he died in 1993. Her son, James E. Caffrey and his wife, Carol, of Wakefield, MA predeceased her as did her brother, Howard White of North Andover, MA. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. During the war, Mrs. Caffrey worked at General Electric as an electrical engineer in Lynn, MA and then devoted her life to her husband and family with summers spent at the family cottage at Seabrook Beach, NH and winters on the ski slopes of New Hampshire.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover, MA and the funeral will follow at St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, MA at 1 PM.
