Holden: Leonard E. Hastings Sr. 95, passed away peacefully in Holden Rehab and Nursing Center on Saturday, June 9, 2018. His wife of 62 years, Barbara (Tatro) Hastings and a daughter Doris Szaban predeceased him. He leaves a son and daughter-in-law- Leonard and Sandra Hastings, Jr. of Holden; six grandchildren- Dana Hastings and his companion Estella Sykes of Worcester, Tracey Hogan and her husband Bradford of Worcester, Brian Hastings and his wife Elizabeth of Sutton, Shellie Goodwin and her husband Ryan of Barre, Robert Brandt of Worcester, and Katherine Gagnon of Worcester; 11 great-grandchildren, among them Lindsay, Zachary, Nathan, Allison, Erin, Megan, Kiley, and Eileen; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Lillian Norton, Sara Babbit, Leon Hastings, Jr. and Donald Hastings.
Leonard was born in Worcester, son of Leon and Gertrude (Frazer) Hastings, Sr. He graduated from Commerce High School and proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for over 50 years as a clerk in the meat department of Stop and Shop. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Auburn, a member of American Legion Post 318, and a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family.
Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 5-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at Nordgren's on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 10 am. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Donations may be made to the "Memorial Fund" at Faith Baptist Church 22 Faith Avenue Auburn MA 01501.
