Obituary

John P. Montalbano, of Medford, passed away on Friday, June 8th at the Winchester Hospital. He was 80.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (DaSaro) Montalbano. John graduated from Medford High School with the Class of 1956. Following graduation, John enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves. He loved his country and his community. John’s career was in law enforcement, proudly serving as a Medford Police Officer from 1963 until his retirement in 1997. Following his retirement, John spent much of his time with his children and grandchildren, whom he loved very much. In his spare time, John enjoyed horse racing, shooting pool and playing cards with friends.

John was the devoted father of Debra A. Magnuson and her husband Eric of Hanover, John J. Montalbano and his partner Christina Bowen of Pembroke, Jason S. Montalbano, and his partner Jaime Albano of Wilmington. He was the loving grandfather of Catherine Magnuson of Weymouth, Hannah Magnuson of Hanover, John and Christopher Montalbano, both of Pembroke, Dominic Johnson of Somerville, and Gianni Montalbano of Wilmington. John was the dear brother of Flora Spinale of Melrose, and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Wednesday, June 13th at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
