Obituary

Stanley C. Smith, 71, of Smithfield, died Monday, June 4, 2018 peacefully at home surrounded by his family and faithful companion, Blaze. He was the brother of Richard T. Smith and his wife, Suzanne of Smithfield.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Clifton William Smith and Jean Anne (Clegg) Smith. He lived in Smithfield for most of his life.

Stanley served in the US Army during Vietnam. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Metal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/PALM, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Air Medal (15), and Army Commendation Medal. He was a jack of all trades, including mechanic, plumber, cook, but most memorable when he was a cook at Steereā€™s Restaurant.

Besides his brother and his wife, he is survived by his nephew, Richard T. Smith, Jr. and his wife, Rachel of North Smithfield, his nieces, Emily Smith and her wife, Amy of Smithfield, and Tracey Smith of Lincoln. He leaves nine beloved great nieces and nephews: Grace, Taylor, Isaiah, Amelia, Mary, Catherine, Thomas, John "Jack", and Theresa "Reese". He also leaves his extended family Kathy and Ken, nieces Jane, Jen and family and his cousins. Along with his beloved family, he leaves his friend and long-time neighbor Butch, who provided him with many years of good company.

Stanley enjoyed planting a large garden every year for his friends and family to share. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, photography (taking pictures and the old-fashioned developing in the dark room), and shopping in bulk. He frequently helped his close friends with their projects by loaning any of his thousands of tools. He was truly happy when he was teaching his nieces and nephews how to build or fix something or handing out popsicles whenever they were around. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 11th from 5-7pm in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 360 Westminster St, Providence, RI 02903 or at www.dav.org/
