Francis L. Gillis, a Woburn resident for over fifty years formerly of Lexington, passed away peacefully following a short illness, June 22, 2018 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. He was 79. Frank was the beloved husband of the late Beverly (Gosse) Gillis. Born in Malden he was the son of the late Joseph and Claire (Royce) Gillis.
Frank was raised in Lexington and attended St. Andrews College in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He honorably served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964. Upon his discharge from the Army he began his career of over forty years as a Field Engineer in the Construction Industry. Frank enjoyed reading and spending time in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. However, his greatest joy was his family and nothing made him happier than to be surrounded by his children, grandchildren and those he loved.
Frank is survived by his devoted children; Charles Gillis and his wife Sheila of Tyngsboro, Gary Ring of Hollywood, FL, Amanda Gillis and her fiancé Frank Sigui of Woburn, Alyson Basso and husband Brandon of Windham, NH. He was the loving grandfather of Charles, Chelsea, Grace, Aubrey, Hayden, Nathan and Liliana. Loving great grandfather of Charlotte and John Francis. Brother of Sarah Eagle of CO, the late Elaine Storella and her surviving husband Robert of Waltham. He is also survived by many cherished brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Friday, June 8th, at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at the North Congregational Church, 896 Main St., WOBURN, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with Military Honors and burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Frank's memory to the Middlesex-East Visiting Nurse Hospice, Sawtelle Family Hospice House, 41 Mall Rd., Burlington, MA 01805.
