Obituary

George Morfogen of Natick and Yarmouthport, MA passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 24th, 2018 of heart failure.

During the last years of his life, George was in the loving company of Doris Bickley and extended family and friends. Doris and George were college sweethearts and were together again for these last 25 years, enjoying their house on the Cape and traveling extensively worldwide! George spent his 80th birthday last October in Greece! As a descendant of family in Sparta, this was a very special trip for him.

George was born in NYC to James and Christine Morfogen. He studied at Parsons School of Design and also at the Art Students League in NYC. He graduated from Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania and earned his Master’s degree in social work from Hunter College. Once he arrived in Boston in 1998 he enrolled in the Art Institute of Boston and also Danforth Museum in Framingham for art classes.

George worked for many years in NYC in elderly housing and took great pride in finding shelter for the homeless there. He also helped facilitate a program in Boston for elderly housing before he “retired”! Post retirement, George kept very busy working as part of the caretaking team for his dear friend Dr. Zullo at Winona Farm for the last 14 years. In addition, he volunteered at TCAN arts center in Natick. George continuously took art classes and painted numerous artworks, which were often shown at local Natick galleries and The Frame Shop, as well as a few galleries on Cape Cod. Art was George’s “spiritual expression” as someone recently described.

George was very passionate about the visual arts, music, travel, the wonders of nature and life in general. Always upbeat and positive, George was quick to make jokes and just have a good time wherever he was. His presence will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

A celebration of George’s life will be held on June 24th for family and friends. Please contact the family for details ([email protected]). In lieu of flowers, Doris has asked for donations to be made to The Center for Arts in Natick (TCAN), 14 Summer Street, in Natick, MA. 01760.
