Nisi L. “Dennis” Dionis, 92, of Boylston died Sunday, June 3rd in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. His wife of 47 years, Clara K. (Karcasinas) Dionis died in 1997. He leaves two daughters, Dennise M. Antonio and her husband, Mark of Naperville, IL; Maria E. Dionis of Sutton; a son, Gregory D. Dionis and his partner, Steven of Milford; a brother, Konstantine L. Dionis of Redwood City, CA; three grandchildren, Andrea Simkins and her husband, Erik of Colorado Springs, CO; Stephanie Creedon and Jason Bartlett of Scituate, Alexandra Antionio of Baltimore, MD and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Urania Vassos.
He was born in Boboshtica, Albania, the son of Ligor and Marianthi (Gogo) Dionis. Dennis was a World War II Navy Veteran and a radioman on a LCSS (Landing Craft Support Ship) in the Pacific. Mr. Dionis owned the Village Sandwich Shop from 1964 until 1985 and previously owned Crossroads Restaurant with Helen Pappas from 1950 until 1964. He was a longtime member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, the Boylston Masonic Lodge and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He enjoyed spending his time bowling, golfing and attending his grandchildren’s events.
His funeral is Friday, June 8th in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester with a service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 AM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a Masonic service starting at 10:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
