Obituary

In East Taunton, June 1, 2018, Robert Mace Leavitt, passed away unexpectedly in his home at the age of 90. He leaves his beloved wife Dorothy (Lynch) Leavitt of East Taunton. He was born in Lynn, MA, the son of the late Harold B. & Alice (Mace) Leavitt. He was educated in Lynn schools. Robert was employed and retired from the former Boston & Maine Railroad as a locomotive engineer and train master for 35 years. He also worked as a deputy sheriff for Franklin County, MA. After his retirement he worked as a seasonal park ranger at the Cape Cod National Seashore. Robert served his country honorably during both WWII and the Korean Conflict on the U.S.S. Taconic AGC. 17 and the U.S.S. Remey, DD 688. Robert was a member of the American Legion, Post #121 and the D.A.V., Chapter #57 in Taunton. He enjoyed working and above all was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished his time with family. In addition to his wife Dorothy, Robert leaves his children, Diane Mace Kinner of Kissimmee, FL, Robert B. Leavitt of Falls Church, VA and Daniel P. Leavitt of Leominster, MA. He was brother of the late James and Arthur Leavitt, Mildred Nichols and Phyllis Harwood. Robert also leaves his loving grandchildren, Hailey Leavitt, Lucas Leavitt and Gabrielle Leavitt. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 7th at 11AM in Holy Family Church in East Taunton. Relatives and friends are also invited to visiting hours prior to the mass from 9:30-10:30AM at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780. Burial will follow at the Bourne National Cemetery in Bourne, Ma at 1:30PM. Donations in Robert's memory may be made to the Taunton Animal Care Facility, 821 West Water St., Taunton, MA 02780.
