In Boston, June 1, 2018 Francis B. Welch Jr., Age 75, passed away unexpectedly at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He leaves his beloved wife Carol (Podzon) Welch of Taunton. Francis was born in Fall River, the son of the late Francis B. Welch Sr. & Theresa R. (Arsenault) Welch. He was a graduate of Monsignor Coyle High School, class of 1960 and furthered his education at both Coyne Electric and Wentworth Institute in Boston. Francis was employed as a union electrician for IBEW Brotherhood #223 for 45 years which he was incredibly proud of. During his employment as an electrician, Francis worked in ME, N. H., OH, WI, WA, IN, CT, N.Y., R.I., TX, FL, and of course MA. Francis was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion and the VFW in Plymouth. His favorite sport was playing darts; he enjoyed fishing, golfing, spending time in both FL and Plymouth. His favorite teams were the Red Sox and Patriots. While working in Indiana he enjoyed attending the Indi 500 and had the opportunity to go to the Daytona 500 several times. He also loved being a hockey and baseball coach. Francis was a resident of Taunton and wintered in Ormond by the Sea for 13 years and loved spending summers at Ellis Haven Campground in Plymouth for 35 years. In addition to his wife, Francis leaves his loving children, Rosemarie Burrell and her husband Peter of Taunton, Francis M. Welch and fiancée Paula Diffley of Raynham and Todd B. Welch and his wife Kim of Dighton. He also leaves his grandchildren, Todd Tigano and his wife Ashley of Taunton, Mark Tigano and wife Carissa of Raynham and Abigail Welch of Dighton, his great grandchildren, Skylar, Mark and Jocelyn Tigano. Francis was preceded in death by his brother Michael Welch. Francis also leaves several nieces and nephews and many friends and his best friend, his dog Cricket. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Wednesday, June 6th at 10 am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude the Apostle Church in Taunton at 11 am. Relatives and friends are also invited to visiting hours on Tuesday from 4-7 pm. Burial will be at a later date.
