McAlpine, Frederick S. M.D. Of Natick, longtime resident of Wellesley Hills, who passed away unexpectedly on May 31st, at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Barbara (Adams) McAlpine for 62 years. Fred is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Christopher and Lisa (Broderick) of Titusville FL, Daniel and Beth (Flieger) of Holliston, MA and our daughter, Karen Healey of Plymouth N.H. He also leaves his six cherished grandchildren, Ashlynn, Carly, Lauren, Colleen, Nora and Kevin and a nephew, David Dinnen of Highland Heights, OH.
Born in Monessen, PA, Fred was the son of Karl and Kathryn (Schuerhoff) M Feehan. He was predeceased by his sister and brother in law, Kathryn and Roderick Dinnen. He attended Monessen High School, where he won national honors in Debating. He graduated from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA in 1950 and the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, Pittsburgh, PA in 1954. He did his Internship at the US Naval Hospital, Bethesda MD and his residency in Anesthesia at Massachusetts General Hospital, becoming Chief Resident in 1957. He remained on active duty as Assistant Chief of Anesthesia at the US Naval Hospital, Bethesda, MD from 1957 to 1960, where he was promoted to Lt. Commander Medical Corps USNR in 1960. He joined the staff of the Department of Anesthesia at the Lahey Clinic In 1960, becoming Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia, 1971-1982. He was President of the Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiologists, 1971-1972.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate his life will be held at St. Paul Church, 502 Washington St. Wellesley, MA on July 17 at 11 am. Funeral arrangements being handled by George F Doherty Funeral Home in Wellesley. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Francis House, P O Box 55859, Boston, MA, 02205 or the St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, MT, 59004. Internment Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.
