Obituary

Bernard T. Swansey, 83, of Franklin died Saturday May 26, 2018 at the Tippett Home in Needham.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late George E. and Kathleen V. (Martin) Swansey. He was a graduate of Monsignor Coyle High School in Taunton and Stonehill College.
Mr. Swansey was formerly employed in financial services for the Polaroid Corporation.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was an avid runner who had run in six marathons including one Boston Marathon.
He is survived by seven children, Timothy Swansey and his wife Chris of Bristol, RI, James Swansey and his wife Laurie, and Mary Ann Jordan and her husband David, all of Walpole, Christine Ovitt and her husband Travis of Pittsfield, Karen Tegelaar and her husband Alex of Medway, Juliane Swansey of Spencer, and Daniel Swansey and his wife Caroline of Yacolt, WA; his brother, George E. Swansey of Sarasota, FL; 14 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday June 4, 2018 at 9 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford.  Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be on Sunday June 3, 2018 from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.  In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Tippett Home in memory of Bernard T.
