Obituary

Anastasia Frangus Manitsas of Maplewood at Weston, MA., died on May 25, 2018. Formerly of East Longmeadow and West Springfield, she was predeceased by her husband “Bill” (Vasile) in 1997.
She is survived by her beloved daughter Martha and her loving husband Nicholas Perakis of Natick. She was predeceased by her brothers William and Louis Frangus and sisters Caliope Kosmas, Hellen Demetriou and Anna Pippin.
She leaves many cherished nieces and nephews and dear friends Agnes Fleming of West Springfield and Judy Camrye of Agawam, MA.
Born in Springfield, MA in 1922, Anne was a buyer at the Albert Steiger Company and later a customer sales representative at Mead Westvaco. She especially enjoyed the New York City business trips and trade shows.
She was an active board member of the East Longmeadow Library where she initiated and chaired the Massachusetts Program for the Humanities which featured women in art, politics, writing, etc. Well attended, each program was led by professors from Mt. Holyoke, Smith and Amherst Colleges. Another particular interest was her love of politics and current events, subjects she pursued with great enthusiasm in various current events groups.
Following her move to West Springfield, Anne became active on the board of the West Springfield Library. She also became an active participant for several years in the Five College Learning in Retirement Program where classes were held at Smith, Mt. Holyoke, Amherst College, Hampshire College and UMass Amherst campuses. She laughingly --and also with pride-- referred to this as her college education. An avid reader, she had a particular love of poetry and pursued this interest through the LIR program and also with fellow residents at Maplewood.
She is remembered for her love of family and her enthusiasm for life.
Donations in Anne’s name may be made to:St. Luke’s Greek Orthodox Church of East Longmeadow Endowment Fund, 400 Prospect Street, East Longmeadow, MA, 01028, or The West Springfield Public Library, 200 Park Street, West Springfield, MA, 01089
